Hindrances

Now is the time to choose from the below list of Hindrances. These are divided up into Major Hindrances (worth 2 points) and Minor Hindrances (worth 1 point). You are only allowed to have 5 points worth of Hindrances. Here is what you can do with the points:

For 2 points you can …
  • Purchase an Edge.
  • Increase an attribute by a die type, up to the maximum of d12.
For 1 point you can …
  • Increase a skill by one die type.
  • Receive 500 silver pieces.

Here is the list of Hindrances available to your investigators along with a short description. Most of these are self-explanatory, but the source for each is listed in case you wanted more details.

Arrogant Major Must humiliate opponent, challenge the “leader” SW:EX
Bad Dreams Major One less benny per session from nightmares D:RL
Bad Eyes Minor/Major -2 to attack or notice something more than 5” distant SW:EX
Bad Luck Major One less benny per session SW:EX
Big Mouth Minor Unable to keep a secret, blabs at the worst time SW:EX
Blank Stare Minor -2 Charisma because of empty eyes DAR
Blind Major -6 to all actions that rely on vision; -2 on ocial rolls, gain additional Edge SW:EX
Bloodthirsty Major Never takes prisoners SW:EX
Callous Minor -1 Persuasion due to uncaring nature DAR
Cautious Minor Character is overly careful SW:EX
Clueless Major -2 to most Common Knowledge rolls SW:EX
Code of Honor Major Character keeps his word and acts like a gentleman SW:EX
Curious Major Character wants to know about everything SW:EX
Death Wish Minor Hero wants to die after completing some task SW:EX
Delusional Minor/Major Character suffers from grave delusions SW:EX
Doubting Thomas Minor Character doesn’t believe in the supernatural SW:EX
Elderly Major Pace -2, -1 to Strength and Vigor die types; 5 extra skill points for any skill linked to Smarts SW:EX
Enemy Minor/Major Character has a recurring nemesis of some sort SW:EX
Glass Jaw Major -2 to soak rolls RE
Greedy Minor/Major Character is obsessed with wealth SW:EX
Habit Minor/Major A Minor Habit is simply annoying; characters must make Fatigue rolls when deprived of Major Habits SW:EX
Hard of Hearing Minor/Major -2 to Notice sounds; automatica failure if completely deaf SW:EX
Heavy Sleeper Minor Once asleep, -4 to Notice rolls to wake up, -4 Vigor rolls to stay awake D:RL
Heroic Major The character is a true hero and always helps those in need SW:EX
Holy Roller Minor Loudly expressed religious faith, suffers -1 Charisma with people who don’t share Hindrance DAR
Lame Major -2 Pace and running die is d4 SW:EX
Loyal Minor The hero tries to never betray or disappoint his friends SW:EX
Luddite Minor/Major Unfamiliar with technology as Minor (All Thumbs), actual abandonment of technology as Major DAR
Lying Eyes Minor -2 to Intimidation and Persuasion when lying is involved D:RL
Mean Minor Character suffers -2 to Charisma for his ill-temper and surliness SW:EX
Milquetoast Minor -2 to Spirit rolls to recover from being Shaken RE
Necromantic Weakness Minor/Major Minor -2 to resist supernatural undead attacks, -4 with Major HF
Obese Minor +1 Toughness, -1 Pace, d4 running die SW:EX
Obsession Major Obsessed with something to the exclusion of most other things, -2 Spirit roll to control RE
Outsider Minor -2 Charisma, treated badly by those of the more dominant society SW:EX
Overconfident Major The hero believes he can do anything SW:EX
Pacifist Minor/Major Character fights only in self-defesnse as a Minor Hindrance, and won’t fight living creatures under any circumstances as a major Hindrance SW:EX
Poverty Minor Half starting funds, general inability to hang onto future income SW:EX
Quirk Minor Character has some minor but persisent foible, such as bragging, elitism, or the pursuit of fame SW:EX
Slowpoke Minor -1 Pace D:RL
Small Major -1 Toughness SW:EX
Stand Out Minor -4 to disguise attempts to hide what you look like RE
Stubborn Minor Hero always wants his way SW:EX
Thin Skinned Major Wound penalties suffer an additional -1 D:RL
Ugly Minor -2 Charisma due to the character’s less than average appearance SW:EX
Vengeful Minor/Major Character holds a grudge, will kill to settle the score as a Major Hindrance SW:EX
Vow Minor/Major Hero has a pledge to himself, a group, a deity, or a religion SW:EX
Wanted Minor/Major The character is a criminal of some sort SW:EX
Yellow Major The character is cowardly and suffers -2 to his Guts rolls SW:EX
Young Major 3 points for Attributes (instead of 5), 10 skill points (instead of 15), +1 benny per session SW:EX
